Guides to help you choose

Before You Pick a Hair Mask

This section is for dry, frizzy, split or heat- and color-stressed hair that needs more than a daily conditioner. Options differ by ingredients (argan oil, panthenol, wheat or yogurt protein, castor oil, Procapil) and by goal: hydration, repairing the look of damage, or scalp care. Prices run roughly from 70 to 450 EGP depending on size and brand.

How to choose

  • Name your main concern first: dryness, split ends, breakage or dandruff; each mask targets something different.
  • Very dry or curly hair suits rich oil- or butter-based masks; fine hair prefers lighter formulas.
  • Compare price per size: 300–390 ml tubs are better value for long hair or frequent use.
  • On a tight budget, start with an Eva cream bath before moving to pricier options.
  • With noticeable hair fall, scalp itching or irritation, ask the pharmacist before choosing.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a hair mask, a cream bath and regular conditioner?

Conditioner is used after every wash and rinsed quickly. Masks and cream baths are thicker and left on for several minutes for deeper conditioning. In practice masks and cream baths are very similar; the difference is mostly naming and texture. Some, like Garnier Hair Food 3-in-1, work as conditioner, mask and leave-in.

How often should I use a mask and how long do I leave it on?

Once or twice a week is usually enough, left on for the time stated on the pack, often 5 to 20 minutes on towel-dried hair. Overuse can leave hair heavy or greasy, especially fine hair. Follow each product's directions, and if unsure, ask the pharmacist.

Can a mask help my hair grow longer or reduce hair fall?

Some masks, like Eva Advanced Care with castor oil and rice water, Clary with Procapil, or Solodex Roots, may support stronger-looking hair and less breakage. But a mask does not treat medical hair loss, which can be hormonal or linked to deficiencies. For ongoing hair fall, ask the pharmacist or see a dermatologist.

I have dandruff. Will a regular mask help?

Moisturizing masks usually go on the lengths and ends, not the scalp, so they don't target dandruff. The shelf includes the Macro Atrakta mask designed for dandruff-prone scalp care. If flaking is heavy or comes with redness and strong itching, ask the pharmacist; you may need a suitable medicated shampoo instead.

My hair is colored or keratin-treated. What should I choose?

Chemically treated hair needs moisture and help with the look of damage, so panthenol masks like Hepta or argan and wheat protein masks like Derminix may suit it. After keratin, follow your salon's advice on sulfate- and salt-free products. If torn between two options, ask the pharmacist and mention your treatment.
