The best-value multivitamin per day is Centrum Adults (EGP 710 for 100 days, or EGP 7.1 a day). If you want imported: NOW Daily Vits (EGP 650 for 30 days), or Alive Women's and Alive Men's (EGP 1,300 for 50 days). Puritan's Pride has no general daily multivitamin at Beseha right now, but it offers Prenatal and Hair, Skin & Nails. Remember that a multivitamin does not replace a healthy diet.
Who actually needs a multivitamin?
The NHS says most people get all the nutrients they need from a varied, balanced diet, and only some people need supplements. Harvard says a multivitamin is most useful when diet alone falls short, for example:
- People with a poor appetite or on restrictive diets for more than a week.
- People with absorption problems such as coeliac disease or ulcerative colitis, or after surgery such as gastric bypass.
- Women who are or may become pregnant, who need folate and other prenatal nutrients.
- Busy people who cannot eat a balanced diet every day.
Harvard stresses that a multivitamin “cannot in any way replace” a healthy, balanced diet, and that people who already eat well may get little or no benefit.
How to choose an imported multivitamin
- Doses close to daily needs: Harvard advises a product with Recommended Daily Allowance amounts and avoiding mega-doses, which can interfere with medicines or become toxic over time.
- Quality seal: Harvard says the USP seal means the label is accurate and the product is free of contaminants.
- Iron by your needs: per the NHS, men need 8.7 mg of iron a day and women aged 19 to 49 need 14.8 mg; more than 17 mg from supplements is not advised without a doctor.
- Watch the herbal extras: Harvard warns that products with many herbal extras often lack long-term safety research.
- Compare the cost per day, not per pack: a 100-tablet pack is very different from a 30-tablet one.

Common mistakes
- A multivitamin instead of food: it does not replace fibre or a balanced diet (per Harvard).
- Stacking supplements: a multivitamin plus separate vitamin D, iron or biotin can push your doses too high.
- Prenatal when not pregnant: it has high iron you probably do not need.
- Believing every energy or skin claim: Harvard advises being wary of such marketing.
Important safety notes
- If you take long-term medicines, ask a doctor or pharmacist before any multivitamin, because high doses can interfere with medicines (per Harvard).
- Iron above 20 mg can cause constipation, nausea and stomach pain, and very high doses can be fatal for children; keep packs out of their reach (per the NHS).
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: a doctor should choose the product and dose.
- If you have symptoms such as ongoing tiredness or numbness, get checked and tested rather than just taking a supplement.

FAQ
What is the best imported multivitamin in Egypt?
It depends on your needs: NOW Daily Vits for general daily use, Alive Women’s for women, Alive Men’s or NOW ADAM for men, and Puritan’s Pride Prenatal for pregnancy. Current prices are on each product page.
Does Puritan’s Pride have a daily multivitamin?
At Beseha there is currently no general daily multivitamin from Puritan’s Pride; available are its prenatal vitamins and its hair, skin and nails formula.
Do I need a multivitamin if I eat a balanced diet?
Usually not. Most people get the nutrients they need from a varied, balanced diet, according to the NHS, and a multivitamin does not replace healthy food.
What is the difference between men’s and women’s multivitamins?
Amounts differ by need, most notably iron: women aged 19 to 49 need 14.8 mg a day and men 8.7 mg, according to the NHS. That is why some women’s formulas contain iron and some men’s formulas leave it out.
When should I take a multivitamin?
Most product pages advise once a day with or after food, ideally at the same time every day.
Can I take a multivitamin with vitamin D or iron?
Add up the total from every source before combining them, because doubling up can push a dose above the safe limit. Ask a pharmacist first.
Do multivitamins prevent chronic disease?
The US Preventive Services Task Force found insufficient evidence that multivitamins prevent heart disease or cancer in healthy adults, according to Harvard.
The bottom line
Best value per day: Centrum Adults. Imported for everyone: NOW Daily Vits. For women Alive Women’s, for men Alive Men’s or NOW ADAM, and for pregnancy Puritan’s Pride Prenatal under medical advice. If your diet is balanced, you probably do not need a multivitamin.
